Two true masterworks of the classical period are Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 (Emperor). Each year they are among the most performed works by American orchestras. We are delighted that pianist Eric Street will perform the Emperor Concerto with the orchestra. Eric has won acclaim on six continents, with performances in thirty-five countries.  His concerts have been telecast in the US, Asia, Middle East and Europe, including a broadcast across Russia over the Kultur network from the American Embassy in Moscow. Eric is Professor of Music and coordinates keyboard studies at the University of Dayton. Don’t miss this concert – it will put musical sunshine in your winter!

Eric Street, Guest Artist

Eric Street is Professor of Music and coordinates keyboard studies at the University of Dayton.  He joined the UD faculty after teaching at Indiana University, the University of California (Santa Barbara) and Bethany College, where he was the youngest faculty member to be appointed Distinguished Professor. From 2004–8 he served as Graul Endowed Chair in Arts and Languages. He earned his MM and DM at Indiana University School of Music under Menahem Pressler, with additional study in Vienna under Paul Badura-Skoda.  As tour leader and interpreter he has led numerous student and adult groups to Aix en Provence, Athens, Dublin, Florence, London, Paris, Sicily, and Vienna. He holds certificates in German and Italian.

As a pianist he has won acclaim on six continents, with performances in thirty-five countries.  His concerts have been telecast in the US, Asia, Middle East and Europe, including a broadcast across Russia over the Kultur network from the American Embassy in Moscow. Standing ovations followed his debuts in Carnegie Recital Hall, Paris, Cairo, London, St. Petersburg, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Berlin, Vienna, Salzburg, and Prague. In his 12-concert Japan tour, Tokyo University News stated "the whole performance was wonderful and captivated the audience."

An active ensemble artist, Eric Street has toured the world as part of “Side by Side” piano duo, and accompanied more than two dozen singers from the Metropolitan and New York City Opera rosters.  He has toured as pianist with the Dance Theatre of Harlem and recently performed in China.

Dr. Street’s articles appear in over eighty periodicals, including Clavier, Keyboard Quarterly, and Opera Journal. The London Guardian has cited his research. He covers opera locally for the Dayton City Paper. Heritage Music Press and Wehr’s Music House publish his compositions, and the Ohio Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts have sponsored many of his US performances.
